Proof of ID Requirements

You may need to prove your identity when you make certain requests. If this applies, you must provide:

  • 2 documents to prove your identity
  • 1 document to prove your address

Bank statements and utility bills must be less than three months old.

Proof of Identity

We accept the following forms of ID.

  • Current EU/EEA passport, photo driving licence or identity card
  • All other current signed passports, with a valid UK Visa where applicable
  • HMRC Tax Notification
  • Young Scots Card
  • Biometric Residence Permit
  • Disabled drivers blue badge pass
  • Benefit entitlement letter
  • Armed Forces ID Card
  • Office Immigration Status Document accompanied by proof of right to reside
  • Office Application Registration Card
  • Ireland Electoral Identity Card

Proof of Address

  • EU/EEA photo driving licence
  • Benefits entitlement letter
  • HMRC Tax Notification
  • Local authority tax bill for the current year Utility bill (such as gas or landline phone bill) less than three months old and must not be a mobile phone bill
  • Bank, building society or UK credit union statement
  • UK, EU/EEA mortgage statement
  • Current UK provisional driving licence
  • UK credit card statement
  • Tenancy agreement issued by a solicitor, housing association, local council or reputable letting agency

Using your documents

If you use the same document to prove your identity, you must provide a different document to prove your address.

For example, if you use a driving licence as proof of identity, you must provide another document, such as a utility bill, as proof of address.

Overseas Mandates

If you are completing an overseas mandate form, you must provide:

  • Photographic ID (for example, a passport or driver’s licence)
  • Proof of bank account

Your bank document must show your:

  • current address
  • date it was issued

You can use a paper or online bank statement.
